How to find commercial listings in the Businesses archive: what each filter does, how to use Best for (plus Topics and Interests), and how to read the results.
Why you do not “search in Discover”
In the main menu, Discover is a hub: it groups different archives (People, Businesses, Places, and more). There is no single Discover search page.
For shops, studios, restaurants, chains, and other commercial activity, open the dedicated archive:
|
|
| Menu |
Discover → Businesses |
| URL |
/businesses/ |
Search, filters, sort, and map for that catalogue live here. (Hub overview: What is Discover.)
Open the archive and get oriented
- Go to Discover → Businesses (or open
/businesses/).
- Check the Businesses heading and the list of cards.
- Open the filter panel (icon/toggle at the top — it may show a count if filters are already active).
- Use Order By to sort and Reset Filters? to clear.
The useful split stays the same: filters narrow who appears; Order By sets the order; the card is the calling card; a click opens the full listing.
Header Quick Search (CTRL+K) is a different tool: it finds things fast across the whole platform. It does not replace the filters on /businesses/.
Filters on the Businesses archive
These are the member-facing filters on the stage archive (labels in English, as in the UI).
Find and place
| Filter (UI) |
What it does |
| Search |
Keyword field (placeholder Search): name, bits of description, other text cues. |
| Where to look? |
Place on the map (placeholder Where to look?): “near…”. |
| Enable proximity search |
Turns on proximity search; a radius appears (e.g. 10 km). |
| Cyprus area |
District or area of Cyprus — the catalogue’s geo facet. |
Start here when you know what you want or where to look. Area + keyword narrows the island without endless scrolling.
Listing type and trade
| Filter (UI) |
What it does |
| Business / Chain |
Listing type (shown as buttons, e.g. Business). Business = venue / activity; Chain = chain hub. |
| Sectors |
Industry (food, automotive, health, …): the listing’s main trade. |
| Price Range |
Spend band / price positioning on the listing. |
| Features |
Amenities from the Features catalogue. |
| Open Now |
Only listings open right now, based on hours on the listing. |
Sectors is the usual filter when you know what kind of business you want. Features and Open Now refine the practical context.
Size, ownership, languages
| Filter (UI) |
What it does |
| Company size |
Organisation size band. |
| Ownership type |
Ownership / structure indicated on the listing. |
| Languages |
Languages on the listing — useful when you need a specific language. |
Quality and sandbox
| Filter (UI) |
What it does |
| Hide Demo |
Toggle to include or exclude demo listings. Keep demos hidden when you want real businesses. |
Sort
| Filter (UI) |
What it does |
| Order By |
Result order. It does not decide who enters the list — only in which order you see them. |
Topics, Interests, and Best for — searching with matching
Beyond sector and area, the Businesses archive exposes three matching facets. They do not replace Sectors: each answers a different question.
| Filter (UI) |
Question |
When to use it |
| Topics |
What is this listing about? |
You want a theme (food, wellness, family, …) that can span different kinds of businesses. |
| Interests |
Which affinities / interests does it touch? |
You want listings aligned with passions or interest contexts. |
| Best for |
Who is it ideal for? |
You start from yourself: families, relocators, tourists, investors, … |
How to use Best for in practice
- On
/businesses/, open the filter panel.
- Open the Best for facet.
- Pick the segment that describes you (or who you are searching for).
- Add Cyprus area or Sectors if you need to narrow further.
- If results are thin, remove one filter at a time — often Best for + area is enough.
Topics and Interests work the same way in the panel: choose terms, apply, scan the cards.
To understand how the three axes differ (without the search steps): Topics, Interests, and Best for — how they work.
Results, cards, and the full listing
- After you apply filters, scan the cards.
- Use quick cues (sector, area, chips) to compare.
- Open a card for the full listing (story, contacts, hours, relationships, …).
- If the list feels wrong: Reset Filters? and restart with a few strong criteria (area + sector, or Best for + area).
Publishing your own business is a separate task (Business form in the dashboard). Here the job is only to find and choose in the catalogue.
Quick tips
- Pick the right archive before you filter: Businesses are not Places or Doctors.
- A few strong filters beat ten half-set facets.
- Open Now only matters when you need something immediately.
- Hide Demo keeps platform examples out of a real search.
- Use matching (Best for / Topics / Interests) when sector alone is not enough.
